Blue Flag

On June 6, 2007 Wasaga Beach Provincial Park became the first provincial or state managed park to achieve Blue Flag status. This eco-label is awarded internationally to beaches and marinas that meet 27 criteria focused on water quality, environmental management, environmental education, and safety and services.  During the summer, Blue Flags are flown along the beach in Beach Areas 1, 2, and 5.

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park has been practicing good standards in each of the four categories for many years and has maintained its Blue Flag status since 2007.  The park must reapply for this eco-label each year, showing continued ability to meet the set Blue Flag standards.  The presence of the flying flags shows the park’s success in attaining the label each year.

Over 2500 beaches and marinas around the world have received this recognition. Environmental Defence is Canada’s regulating link between Canadian beaches and the Foundation for Environmental Education, the founding agency for this program and other’s that focus on environmental education and sustainability. Both the park and the Friends communicate with Environmental Defence in regards to the beach.
