Volunteering with Piping Plover

Public Outreach and Monitoring Nests:  A key component to the recovery of Piping Plovers is the Volunteer Program. Volunteers are stationed at the site seven days per week, 12 hours per day as they monitor the Piping Plovers and record behaviour accordingly.  They play a key role in providing information to the public about the importance of conservation, ecological integrity, and the protection of species at risk such as the Piping Plover.

Volunteers with our Recovery Program have two primary objectives:

  • To educate beach visitors about the importance of Piping Plovers, conservation, species at risk, and dune ecology (do not worry –we provide training!)
  • To monitor the birds, record their behaviour, and report any issues back to the Beach Stewardship Coordinator.
